Rachael Martinez Nominated for Open Alderman Seat

During the first work session of the new Board of Alderman, Mayor Michael Whisenant put forth Rachael Martinez’s name to fill the open 5th alderman seat.

In making the nomination, Mayor Whisenant said, “I spent quite a bit of time focusing on the person for this seat. After looking at different people, my decision came back to the person that I felt would fit best with this board. Her experience being the regional director the AYSO soccer program is going to be a great benefit as the BMA [Board of Mayor and Alderman] moves forward developing our soccer fields through the LPRF grant.”

Martinez was the fifth highest vote getter in the August election. If approved as expected, she’ll serve in that role until the next city election in 2020. You can listen to my election interview with her here.

When asked about the nomination, Martinez said, “I want to thank the mayor for the nomination and the agreement from the alderman to push forward with the vote at the Tuesday meeting. Again, I appreciate all those who supported me and look forward to filling the seat.”

Martinez’s name next goes to the Board for the official vote. If you’d like to contact your alderman about that vote, you can find their contact info here. The next meeting is Tuesday December 11 at 5pm.
